Why I love magazines!

For as long as I can remember I have always loved the feeling of a glossy touching my fingers; even more the moment that I lick my index finger to glide to the next page. The enjoyment began at a young age just picking up the magazines around the house or at the library; this was around the time that became interested in fashion.  Flipping through pages and pages just looking at the pictorials of beautiful supermodels until I finally read the articles.
I love magazines mostly because I am a very reflective person and it allows me to write reflectively subjects that I enjoy while voicing my opinion based on facts. Writing has always been a passion of mine and putting that with the fact that I like to be aware of the issues that are going on around me has molded me into being a magazines fanatic. Growing up magazines acted as a great resource for me to stay up to date with a variety of topics from fashion to dating
Working with magazines allows me to be that help and inspiration to others in a more airy way compared to newspaper. As a writer I want to firstly inform readers but also make them reflect on their lives just as I do, challenge the believes or thought process of others based on how I see the world in a journalistic way. I am even fine with just being the one that helps others pass time rather it is on the toilet or in travel. I like magazines because they’re fun and more versatile and even years later one can still pick up a magazine and it still hold the same substance as it did when it was released. I want my writing to be timeless like that.
I'm am so thrilled that I am currently the Editor-in-Chief of Bethune-Cookman University's student magazine, UniverCity Magazine. This position is such a huge stepping stone for me when it comes to accomplishing my goals in the magazine business. The best feeling in the world would be to have everyone to be as excited as I am when it comes to writing. I am so eager to learn and be more hands on in everything that goes on in my student publication...I am going to hold it dear to my heart.

Small Changes

Setting goals is something that I always try to do. Emphasis on 'try'. After a week or so I forget about it or go back to my old habits unless it's something such as finishing school. That's something that I'm not going to forget to do. How could I? I know I'm not in Daytona Beach for Spring Break. I want to be an overall better person and I think that starts with making small changes. The following is a list of things that I plan to work on over the next few months.

  1. Find my outfit at night
I have an 8 o'clock class twice a week and the rest of the week I have a 9 o'clock class. Early classes all week long. I know for a fact that if I have my outfit ready and ironed before I go to bed I will be on time to class because I didn't have to spend time that morning changing pants three times. This will be a challenge for me mostly because my mood is subject to change the next morning so that means I might not even want to wear the planned outfit.
  2. Meditate at least once a day
I have noticed in the past when I do meditate I am more productive. When I meditate at night for about 15-20 mins I am usually fall asleep faster and I sleep the whole night. Sleep is important to me as a college student. I think I will start doing the meditation at night before bed then start morning eventually. This is something that truly has the ability to calm me down.
  3. READ, READ, READ
I usually get all my textbooks for my courses. Do I always read all the assigned reading? Not usually. I read the minimum.  It's not even because I don't like reading because I do. It's mainly because I always seem to get around it. Early in the semester I can usually tell which instructors are going to enforce rules and which ones say buy the book and NEVER use it. I noticed that I am only cheating myself by not reading the textbooks. The time I spent working on this post really could have been spent standing in the bookstore to get my books but I haven't even done that.
  4. Drink more water
I've noticed that I have been a little dehydrated lately. I don't intake a lot of liquids during the day for some reason. It's usually at night when I get home I realize how terribly thirsty I am. I really want to change that. I know how important water is. I'm going to start small with a bottle a day.
I need to post these in my room or something so that I am constantly reminded of it.

My GRAND comeback

I've decided to make a comback to this whole blogginh thing. I've realized a few things
  1. I miss blogging and being able to express myself through my writing or even pictures I see on the internet.
  2. Everyone that comes to my school to speak that works in the media field always says as a writer a blog is a great way to get attention to future employers.
  3. I read a lot of blogs and it leaves me with a lot to say or even thoughts that I can do that myself which is very much true.
