What goes around comes back, just differently.

So I was working on a few other post but I was getting bored while I was doing them so I thought it would be best just to cut those! And I'm glad that I did. I'm really glad that summer is here, kinda. It's not hot yet and I still have school oh and I'm still waking up early! Summer I'm looking forward to just relaxing possibly getting a summer job and hanging out until I depart to Daytona Beach. With the summer I'm able to try a BUNCH of new things, fashion wise at least.

Here's a list (you're going to come to notice that I love list! It keeps me oraganized, well at least I'd like to think they do) of the things I'm so ready to try.

1. The Turban

                                                          Source
This is much more stylish or "sexed" as I just read a second ago. Personally I'm all for it! Honestly it reminds me when my sisters and cousins (and mom) wear a scarf around their head to lay down their edges. This will be something that I will be trying this summer and if I like it I will be wearing it into the fall and I think I will try it both ways....Covering the whole head and just the edges? I find this look ethnic in a way and it is just another way to wear a scarf! Before I cut my hair I was a hat girl and Natural Belle raised the question is this the alternative to a hat.....Hmmmm well I have to say possibly. A hat blocks the sun (sometimes) and well wait it may just be an alternative! I haven't really wore many hats since I cut my hair but it looks like I might have just found an alternative. I love collegefashion.net and a lot of my post will link to them and yes the girls there have organized the "challenge". (Oh and the freckled girl is beautiful!!)

2. Biker Shorts

I vividly recall wearing biker shorts as a kid. I'm not sure I rememer wearing them by themselves but I do remember wearing them under my dresses and skirts. I was the only way I could still swing on the monkey bars and ride my bike and still wear my sundresses. So now this is back but I don't think it went away I just went to middle school and then the leggings came back! At least for me that's what happened. I find this as a way better alternative then leggings under dresses and tunics (YES I SAID DRESSES AND TUNICS! LEGGINGS ARE FOR DRESSES AND LEGGINGS ARE NOT FOR YOU TO JUST WALK AROUND IN  A SHIRT THAT HITS THE TOP OF LEGGINGS!!!!)

Pheww now that that is out back to what I was saying. I'm really really getting tired of leggings (because they aren't being used for their purpose but I'll leave that for another post) I find biker shorts a great atlernative especially for the summer because I can still show my legs but my fear this summer is that people are going to turn these into the new and improved version of leggings. I plan on wearing them with a dress that is a little to short to be worn by its self. During the winter I wore it with tights and boots but that's not going to work for the summer so I will be trading the tights and boots with bikers and sandals. I come to realize that the bikers are often worn under denim shorts ummmmmmm yeah I'm not sure I like it for myself . Oh, and the first picture on the left right under biker shorts I think she's pushing it but it's just there to show the overall concept!

3. Sandals and Socks
This too reminds me of when I was a child. I remember always wearing the ruffled socks with my "church shoes". Wearing socks, knee highs and even thigh highs with sandals/heel is often looked at as taboo. It's funny how things change because once upon a time I would probably see someone with this and think ARE YOU SERIOUS? but no since it's becoming a little more popular I'm starting to like it....that's when it's done right. I did this once and I don't think I got it right but after seeing it done more and more I think I can do it better now, and what better way then to do it this summer. I bought two pairs of like knee length socks (they're like the material of tights) and they're purple but I think  it would be better to do this in like a darker color but I'm not going to I'm going to do the purple and I hope I get this right!

So it's not just wearing them with open toes but it's incorpating socks (knee and thigh highs) into my outfits. Now this may be the challenge!

4. Cropped Tops

So (I use this word waaaaay to much), once again I use to always wear cropped shirts haha I remember those days. When I was younger (I'm still young though) I would always wear extreme bare midriffs tops. For some reason I found much enjoyment in showing my belly! Since then I have changed my style I guess you can say and I no longer walk around showing the stomach. I find the cropped look sophisticatedly sexy in a way because they're are showing just a tiny bit of skin and this can be worn just like any other shirt. I think I like it more with the skirt like it's pictured above......The picture below I also love (and no not because she's wearing a skirt), I love it because she's wearing a long sleeve.  I remember Margherita Missoni saying in an interview that don't have all your skin showing show one body part, if you're going to have your legs out then don't show your back and all your arms and in the picture below she's showing off your legs and its AMAZING!

                                                  lookbook.nu
I bought a dress a while ago and I've worn it a bunch but it's more of a tunic and I'm so over it being a tunic and I got a dreaded stain on it so I'm going to cut it and re-hem it and make it cropped top and while I'm at it I might be cut up my pliad dress too and do an Amber Rose (below)! Well not that extreme my top will be buttoned but I'll try thr tying aspect and might even put on a pair of jeans. I would love to try this with my favorite maxi skirts!

So those are the four things that I will be trying this summer and I'll post what happens and I'll also post the outfit. I'm actually excited to try these things. If I find something else that I want to try I will be adding to this list of four but four that's enough to work on for now at least.
So what do you want to try this summer or just try?

Where's the pride?

Today, May 25th is NATIONAL GEEK/NERD DAY! Yeah if reading makes you nerdy then sure I'll celebrate! But I thought I'd make it fun and put together a "Geek Chic" outfit. Just to have fun with this serious day! :)
I would think that you can wear this whenever.

OBSESSED

CARMEX

Anyone that knows me knows that I love love love love love my Carmex. I make sure I always have it on me and sometimes I even carry more than one...Ya know just in case I loose one in which I have many times. This lip balm is perfect especially lately because the it's cold and then hot, you can purchase many places from drug stores to gas stations. I prefer the jar (something about digging my finger in it adds to the experience). I'm using the tube right now but you can get a stick also and they have flavored ones also.

STUDIO MOISTURE TINT SPF 15 by MAC
So I first tried this when I was getting my makeup done for Prom (thanks Juan). Juan used the tint as more of a concealer but I loved it as just a foundation so I bought it. I use to use the MAC Studio Fix and I personally didn't care much for it and I'm not a morning person so the whole brush thing would drive me CRAZY! I love that the tint is liquid and you can apply it with your finger which makes it even more convenient. It only comes in the shades above (Light, Medium, Medium Dark, Dark and Deep Dark). I use the Deep Dark, and this is a great summer product and easy to throw in your bag. Oh and you don't have to worry about breaking it, on Sunday Morning my Studio Fix dropped and that was the end of that.

MAXI DRESSES and MAXI SKIRTS

You'll quickly realize that I don't like wearing jeans and pants and shorts, I prefer dresses and skirts. These maxi items are AMAZING! They keep you cool and very versitale. The dresses come in man different styles (halter, strapless, straps, sleeves) and come in many different colors and prints. I was at Burlington Coat Factory recently and they had a ton and Forever 21 has a lot (I live by one of the two story ones) also places like Ross, Marshall's and TJ Maxx always have them. This year more and more skirts can be found, and this style looks really cute when the skirt is hiked up and belted with a wide belt.

Courtsey of Collegefashion.net you can learn more about how to wear the maxi dress and maxi skirt. O.M.O. Writes also writes about the maxis.

WIDE BELTS

If I had to choose favorite assesory it would have to be a belt! I love them, and I find a way to add them to almost every outfit. Right now at least I digging wider belts but I still wear the thin ones....the wide belts look good over the above maxis'. I wouldn't recommend an ooberly wide belt over jeans however. This is the perfect way to make you look very hour glass...can't a girl pretend for a day?

I'm going to try my best to make this a weekly post!

And the story goes....

Well I said that I would post something to discuss who I am....that sounds dreadful. Almost like tell me about yourself....Ummmm (blank stare).

So my name is Jahneil but here it's Mara even though I love my name and all strickly for blogging purposes I'm Mara.

I was thinking that I should break this into sections to sort of show why I have the interest of college, style, sports and music.

COLLEGE

  • Well I will be starting college in the fall it's actually summer because August isn't that summer? I will be going to Bethune-Cookman University at the end of summer. GO WILDCATS! I hope I gain some school spirit, I might even wear a shirt or something. I'm really excited and I'm dying to document my journey from CA 2 FL.
  • I have so many things that I am waiting to explore and I'm really ready to meet new people. And I think it's a way to be...refresh things in my life. I think I made a good decision on picking a university.
STYLE
  • I enjoy the artistic side of fashion.
  • I love belts, belts and more belts!!
  • I prefer dresses. I imagine my closet one day with only dresses and skirts.
  • I'm not all that into high fashion but thats where I would love to work however.....My heart is in Street Style. The models on the runway are dead sometimes and it's the people on the streets that truly bring the art to life.
  • I have interest in fashion styling, personal styling and fashion journalism.
  • You can figure out a lot about a person from their outfit, it's the true first impression.
  • It's a chance to be outside the box for a day, or two or three or a lifetime.
  • I don't have a favorite designer.
  • I say take RISKS!
  • I love magazines.
  • Along with fashion it's all about style and I <3 natural hair!
SPORTS
  • Yeah yeah yeah I know, How did this get in the mix?
  • I love the game of basketball, I don't play it and I don't plan on playing it anytime soon either.
  • I'm not knowledge perfect but I'm working on it.
  • NBA and NCAA.
  • Carmelo Anthony.
  • I try my best to keep up with the lastest news.
  • ESPN here I come...that's if I don't get into Essence first.
  • I look up to Lisa Salters and Heather Cox and all the other ladies on ESPN, oh and Michelle Beadle for always taking on the jerk Collin Cowherd (more like Coward) on SportsNation.
MUSIC
Nneka
So I think that's pretty much it....I can't really think of anything that I might be missing (my hands are dry :/ though I just peeled potatoes for dinner and then I washed my hands).

Eh! Now I have to go work on my PowerPoint and Paper on the Smithsonian Institution...I have one picture and one fact.

The Beginning...

I was so hesitant to actually start blogging with a platform that didn't consist of Facebook Notes. My mind for the past year had been filled with concepts that would make some pretty good (at least to me) blogging topics. After successfully posting two notes via Facebook I decided that I was just going to take the risk even though I was....well nervous and scared even then I still felt like I can do this. I dream of my blog going places in the future and gaining popularity and all that good stuff but I fully comprehend the concept that you have to start somewhere. You can't walk into a corporation and think you're going to be CEO that day. I mean it happens sometimes I suppose but for the most part  I would think that you would have to start in a smaller position to prove your dedication and all that stuff and then after time then you may gain the privelage to move up to CEO or whatever your desired position is.

I don't want to make this too long because it is kind of late and I plan on blogging on a regular anyway...especially once school is finished :/
I was typing a short story that I've been working on but got distracted so I'll type that another time....

Next few post will probably consist of who I am and what my blogging intentions are, make this thing a little more personal. So be looking out for that..

Good Night well it's actually morning but it's still night in my book because I never went to sleep and besides it's still dark outside.
